Эссе по английскому языку IELTS — это часть международного экзамена IELTS.

Что такое эссе IELTS

Writing IELTS — один из самых тяжелых модулей международного экзамена IELTS. Он состоит из 2 частей: Academiс и General. В первой части надо описать таблицу или схему. Во второй — написать сочинение IELTS.

На написание эссе IELTS выделяется сорок минут. У этой работы есть свои функции:

• эссе показывает, насколько хорошо экзаменуемый владеет лексикой и грамматикой;
• эссе проверяет умение выражать и аргументировать собственное мнение на английском языке;
• такой вид работы дает понять, какие познания у экзаменуемого в разных сферах: политика, образование, здравоохранении и пр.

Типы эссе IELTS

Экзаменуемому могут предложить один из нескольких типов эссе. Эти эссе значительно отличаются друг от друга:

1. Opinion essay — это тип эссе, в котором автор выражает свое личное мнение. Экзаменуемый может полностью согласиться с предложенным высказыванием в теме, а может согласиться частично.
2. Discussion essay. В этом типе эссе можно не показывать свою точку зрения. Тут надо привести два противоположных мнения и рассказать, почему кто-то придерживается одной стороны, а кто-то другой.
3. Advantage and Disadvantage essay. В таком эссе автор приводит преимущества и недостатки определенного мнения, явления, события.
4. Problem and Solution Essay — тип эссе по английскому, в котором описывается определенная проблема и пути ее решения.
5. Mixed essay — это смешанное эссе. В таком типе работы экзаменуемый отвечает на два поставленных вопроса. Он должен дать на них ответы, обозначить свое мнение и привести веские аргументы.

Структура сочинения IELTS

Вне зависимости от типа эссе, у каждой работы будет своя общая структура. Структура эссе по английскому стандартная:

1. Вводная часть.
2. Основная часть.
3. Заключение.

Рассмотрим, как написать каждую часть на основе эссе на тему курения в общественных местах. Задание в экзамене выглядит так: Some businesses prohibit smoking in any of their offices, some government have banned smoking in all public places, Do you agree or disagree that this is the right course of action? Give reasons for your opinion.

Во введении надо кратко обозначить, о чем пойдет речь в работе. Тут можно пересказать своими словами задание работы. Личное мнение автора и его позицию тут не пишут. Вступление должно быть коротким и быть не больше 3-4 предложений:

It is no question that the smoking of tobacco is harmful for people's health. The ban of smoking in public places, offices, and transport may affect the health situation in very positive way. Taking into consideration the reasons of the smoking ban opponents, I believe that that harmful habit should be obliterated from our life; therefore, I agree with the smoking ban. The reasons behind this approach are medical, social and economic.

Основная часть состоит из 2 параграфов. В первой части автор обозначает свою позицию, во второй — ее аргументирует. В эссе по английскому языку не стоит задача убедить проверяющего в своей правоте. Главное, чтобы автор показал, почему он придерживается такой позиции:

From the medical point of view, the tobacco smoking have a noticeable negative effect on the health of both smokers and non-smokers. In fact, everyone knows that the nicotine, as a component of tobacco, is a very strong poison, the drop of which is able to kill a horse. Hence, the tobacco smokers spoil their health deliberately trying to belittle the destructive effect of their habit. What is worse, the smog of cigarettes is much more dangerous for people that surround the smoker and become the passive smokers. The result of both active and passive smoking is the same: the danger of such an awful illness as a lung cancer.

From the social viewpoint, smoking people create the unpleasant atmosphere around them and limit rights of other people to breathe the clean air. Although the smoking ban opponents believe that their right to smoke should be respected, they completely overlook toe fact that they discriminate other people who also have some rights. As a result, smokers might provoke the conflicts trying to advocate their right to smoke in prejudice of rights of other people.

В заключении экзаменуемый подытоживает сказанное и делает выводы. В этой части не надо давать новую информацию или доводы. Достаточно просто показать, что тезис автора был доказан:

In conclusion, I completely agree with the tobacco smoking ban which may lead to improving of many spheres of people's life and make our cities more enjoyable places to live in.

Как написать эссе IELTS

Когда будете писать эссе для экзамена IELTS, воспользуйтесь нашим планом:

Типичные ошибки в эссе IELTS

Многие экзаменуемые допускают в эссе примерно одинаковые ошибки. Посмотрите самые распространенные ошибки, чтобы не допустить их в своей экзаменационной работе:

1. Многие бегло читают задание и не до конца понимают его. Из-за этого работа может не соответствовать теме, или тип эссе будет выбран неправильно.
2. В эссе нет примеров. В такой работе надо обязательно приводить примеры, которые подкрепляют тезис или аргумент.
3. В эссе нарушена структура. Так бывает, если экзаменуемый пишет работу отдельными абзацами, а потом совмещает их воедино. Так в работе не будет целостности и логичности.
4. Тема эссе не раскрыта. Тематика эссе IELTS непростая и достаточно объемная. Чтобы ее раскрыть и не выйти за допустимый объем, лучше почистить текст от лишних фраз, которые не несут информацию и не влияют на общее восприятие работы.

The population of the world is ever growing. Some people believe that this increase has created an unsustainable situation and that it will lead to a global crisis. Other people believe that only through an increasing population can the world’s economy and society develop.
This population increase is not constant around the world; population is undergoing significant growth especially in less developed countries, and the continent of Africa is predicted to undergo the highest increase. Many people living in these less developed countries frequently face shortages, such as water, food, heating, cooking fuel and medicines, and people have to live in substandard living conditions by western standards. With more inhabitants, these difficulties will become exacerbated and helping these countries might also create strain on the resources and economies of other countries.
On the other hand, many countries are unable to reach their economic potential due to a lack of skilled work forces. For these countries a growing population can mean a stronger economy and, due to that, a better standard of living. Growing populations can also lead to growing demand for goods, allowing economies to expand. The problem is, however, that countries that are in need of labour forces and increasing demand are already the more developed countries and they meet some of these needs by immigration and exporting goods.
In conclusion, it is my belief that while certain areas of the world are in need of larger work forces to develop their economies, the continuously increasing population could potentially lead to crisis within countries that already struggle to provide for their inhabitants.
