Что такое эссе по английскому «За и против»

Эссе по английскому языку «За и против» — это небольшое аргументированное сочинение, в котором автор рассуждает об определенной проблеме и приводит на ее счет разные мнения.

В эссе «За и против» студент должен привести положительные и отрицательные аргументы по заданной теме. Их должно быть примерно одинаковое количество, или они должны быть хотя бы равноценны по значимости.

Такое эссе пишется на экзамене или просто в рамках заданий по английскому языку. Этот вид сочинения считается одним из самых сложных, потому что:

1. Автор должен оставаться объективным.
2. Автор должен привести как положительные, так и отрицательные стороны по заданному вопросу.

Если в обычном эссе по английскому языку студент пишет только свое мнение по теме, то в эссе «За и против» он должен оставаться беспристрастным и рассмотреть заданную проблему под всеми углами. Только в конце работы автор должен поделиться своей точкой зрения и привести объективные доводы.

Требования к эссе «За и против» 

К эссе по английскому языку «За и против» обычно предъявляются стандартные требования:

1. Объем работы — примерно 150-200 слов. Можно чуть больше, но если в эссе будет меньше 135 слов, студент получит 0 баллов.
2. Нельзя использовать сленговые выражения и сокращения слов.
3. Все части эссе должны быть связаны между собой.
4. Нельзя отходить от темы и затрагивать другие смежные вопросы.
5. При написании аргументов «за» и «против» нужно оставаться беспристрастным и не давать личную оценку. 
6. Ходят споры, можно ли в эссе задавать риторические вопросы. В рекомендациях последних лет советуют все же отказаться от риторики и подобного рода вопросов.
7. Можно и нужно включать в работу статистические данные и точные цифры.
8. Когда пишите эссе по английскому языку, нужно использовать только проверенные и достоверные источники.

Структура эссе «За и против» 

Структура у эссе по английскому языку «За и против»  стандартная:

• заголовок;
• введение;
• основная часть;
• заключение.

Заголовок — это тема работы, которая указана в задании. В большинстве случаев по заголовку сразу видно, что данное эссе — «За и против»:

1. Purchasing a Pet or Adopting a Homeless One.
2. The best way to lose weight is following a diet.
3. Children should be required to help with household tasks or not.

Во введении нужно прописать, о чем будет идти речь в сочинении и обязательно сделать перифраз темы, т.е. написать ее название, но своими словами:

It cannot be argued that pets play a significant role in our lives. Cats and dogs have been living in our homes since time immemorial, and now they are kept as pets in more than a half of families worldwide. However, no matter how fun and fulfilling it is, owning an animal is a big responsibility, which starts at the moment you decide to get a new pet. Future pet owners have to answer one important question: ‘Will I buy a pet or adopt a homeless one?’ (Эссе на тему «Purchasing a Pet or Adopting a Homeless One», введение).

В основной части нужно привести аргументы «за и против». Сделать это можно двумя способами.

Можно поделить основную часть на две части: в первой привести аргументы «за», а во второй — «против»:

Purchasing a pet has many advantages. Firstly, it usually ensures that your pet is healthy at the moment of purchase. Secondly, your choice is much wider and you can pick a pet to your liking, including colour, fur texture and, when it comes to pure-bred dogs and cats, even personality. 

On the other hand, when dealing with a homeless animal, you can never be sure in what state it is physically and mentally. It is highly likely that it has lasting health problems due to malnourishment and poor living conditions, and its past negative experiences can result in undesirable patterns of behaviour. (Эссе на тему «Purchasing a Pet or Adopting a Homeless One», основная часть).

Можно построить эссе по-другому: на каждый довод «за» привести аргумент «против». Тогда основная часть будет поделена на несколько логических абзацев:

As far as I concerned, The best time is the time people spend with their family and friends. Firstly, the family and friends are people we spend the most time with. I love my relatives a lot. They always support me and can give advise. Secondly, they are the people who care about us most, do their best to make us happy and surprise us.

Nevertheless, not all people are ready to share my point of view. Some people like to be alone. They like to travel, to have their hobbies, to build career and many other things. If he travels alone, he can decide which place to visit, spend all the vacation on the beach or go sightseeing. Doing things he likes and chooses himself is the best time a person can have. (Эссе на тему «The best time is that spent with family and friends», основная часть).

Заключение эссе тоже может быть двух видов. Первый вариант — это вкратце повторить все аргументы, приписанные выше и высказать свое мнение. Например, можно написать, какие доводы вам кажутся более весомыми и почему:

Personally, I am inclined to compromise and to purchase an animal that is not pure-bred and, therefore, could be thrown out on the street in the case no one bought it. Nevertheless, I am also not opposed to either of the extremes I discussed in this essay. (Эссе на тему «Purchasing a Pet or Adopting a Homeless One», заключительная часть).

Второй вариант — остаться беспристрастным и не высказывать своего мнения. Тогда нужно просто резюмировать сказанное выше и не выносить личную оценку по теме работы:

Considering the pros and cons of both approaches, I can make a conclusion that they both are equally valid. The choice between them depends on what a future pet owner wants and sees as more important. (Эссе на тему «Purchasing a Pet or Adopting a Homeless One», заключительная часть).

Можно выбрать любой вариант заключительной части при условии, что в задании не написано другое. Например, в некоторых эссе может быть прямое указание, что автор должен поразмышлять на заданную тему и высказать свое мнение:

1. Social media – a blessing or a curse?
2. Should there be a mandatory number of trees per square kilometer?
3. Is immortality a blessing or a curse?
